Design and Tools

Which type of files can I upload?

We can work with any BMP, JPG, JPEG, PNG or TIFF file.

Note: When the image format does not include a DPI (resolution) value, we set the resolution at our doodle n' designs default (DPI=100). The Image upload tool also supports EPS which is a vector format and does not natively specify a resolution, but does specify a physical size. Our tools will automatically convert the EPS file to a bitmap/raster image at our doodle n' designs default, whilst keeping the size the same.

What is the best image resolution to print in?

Any file resolution can be used. However, 'grabbing' images from web browsers will often result in a 72 Dots Per Inch (DPI) image. Prints at this resolution will be of poor visible quality with noticeable pixelization around the edge of shapes. Printing the image at 1/2 its size will effectively increase the resolution to 144 DPI which will result in an acceptable print quality. Typically, resolutions of 150-300 DPI are used for digital textile printing. The doodle n' designs default DPI is 100. So at 100 DPI the image will look good full size.

What do each of the QuickFit Tools do?

Repeat = Allows the user to change the size of the image and automatically fills the entire area of the product with repeats of the image, along with any drop that can be specified.

Step & Repeat = Allows the user to scale (smaller or larger) the image and fill a fabric with repeats up to the maximum fabric width and any length offered by the digital printer.

Why should I order a swatch before placing my order?

A picture may be worth 1000 words but seeing is believing. There are a number of reasons why an actual swatch may look different than a screen image.

Fabric is not a computer monitor. This means that colors are handled differently on each medium.

1. A computer screen emits colored light. In contrast, the three-dimensional, colored fabric allows light to pass through and bounce off.

2. A computer screen is virtually flat so the colored light appears constant. Fabric, however, can be folded and draped. These surface variations create lighter and darker areas, causing the same color to appear to be in different hues.

Our digital printers and pigment inks do not always behave as you might expect. For example, saturated colors and true blacks are often lighter than might be anticipated. Customers may need to test different saturation levels or tweak their designs slightly.

Fabrics can have different white points. This means that the same colors will shift brighter or darker depending on the fabric chosen.

Since test swatches are quick to do, CHEAP, and LOTS less frustrating than receiving custom printed material you don't like and cant use, we recommend testing until its right.
